What is the formula for area of a circle?

Finding the formula for area of a circle:

To find the area of a circle, there is a formula to do the task. This formula is established by slicing a circle and arranging the slices to make a rectangle. Consider we have a circle with radius "r" as shown below in the diagram and we want to find its area.

Now let's slice this circle into two semi-circles and then keep slicing it until we get 16 slices of this circle.

Next step is to pick these slices and rearrange them to make a rectangle as shown below:

Hence the formula for area of a circle with radius "r" is established as explained in this presentation.

Area Of A Circle Basic Terminology

Circle is a geometric shape which is learned in basic math. Before reaching to techniques on how to find the area of a circle, we will discuss the circle basics in this post. When pupils study about important geometric shapes in elementary grades, they find out about circles also.

Definition of a circle: "The locus of all the points whose distance from a central fixed point remains the uniform."

We can witness countless circular objects in our routine living. Such items can be in the kitchen in the form of lids, plates and pressure cooker gasket ring or at workplace in the form of CD Discs etc; are all circles.

Now let's talk about the properties of a circle. The center of the circle is the initial to recognize. Center of a circle can be defined as a point inside the circle and is at an even distance from all of the points on its circumference.

The next attribute of a circle is its diameter and it is the longest distance between any two points on the circumference through its center.

Radius is the solely single piece of facts about a circle which is very very useful to discover area and circumference of circles.

In the definition of a circle we talked about the fixed distance between the center of the circle and its boundaries, this fixed distance is known as its radius. Also it is one-half the diameter. Most of the time the radius is used to find the area of a circle.

If we valuate the length of whole of the circular boundary by putting thread over it, then it is called the circumference. There is some space (planner) enclosed inside the circle boundaries, known as its area.

The constant Pi: There is another very important property of circles known as pie (pi) Pie is a constant number (3.14159 approximately) and it is the ratio of circumference to diameter. Pi can be said the universal circle constant.

Basics To Learn How To Find The Area Of A Circle

Summary: There are following key topics about circle basics, students need to remember and study;

1. Center of the circle
2. Radius of the circle
3. Diameter of the circle
4. The circumference or perimeter of the circle
5. The circle constant pi
6. Area of the circle

Hope that students will remember the above basic terms related to the circles. This is to make sure that they are ready to find the circumference and area of a circle.
